04.04.2008 30% up on entries for the AXLR8 Triathlon compared to the same time last year.
04.01.2008 The date was set back in November for the 2008 AXLR8 Triathlon. Hopefully we can raise another £14k for the two chosen charities www.cancerresearchuk.org and www.naomihouse.org.uk. This will bring the total funds raised for the five years to £50,000 as well as having created a great event for our local community that reaches out to the entire region. Competitors come from the South Coast and Cornwall up to Scotland and from all over London and the M4 corridor up to about Bristol. We already have a few early bookings and one lady has bought an entry for her husband for his Christmas present!
20.08.2007 The last of the sponsorship money has trickled in from the 2007 AXLR8 Triathlon. In teh four years it has raised a grand total of £36,000 for the two chosen charities www.cancerresearchuk.org and www.naomihouse.org.uk. This really is a great achievement for all concerned: Several hundred competitors and their families and friends who came to spectate and picnic (under teh RedBull tent this year as the evnt mad Glastonbury look like a desert! Special thsnks to 80 marshalls and other volunteers who gave up so much time.
20.06.2007 The AXLR8 Triathlon is set to be even more successful in 2007! The fourth annual AXLR8 Triathlon took place at Wellington College this year on 24th June. £24,077 has been raised for www.cancerresearchuk.org and www.naomihouse.org.uk so far. Around a thousand people attended this year, whether competing or spectating. The event grows considerably each year and the charity funds increase each time. It is a major community and sporting event now with around 80 volunteers involved and a couple of dozen sponsors providing help with logistics, prizes and "goodies" for the bags. For the elite, the course record of 46:10 is there to be beaten! The ability range is very wide and the age range is from nine year old Guy running with his dad Steve to a 69 year lady who wishes to remain nameless as her friends would know she is lying about her age. Her dad was not running with her! Many have done several AXLR8 Triathlons before. For others it is their first Tri and they have taken advantage of the six pre-event trainings which run in the months beforehand. It is a great achievement for all concerned.
